World of Warcraft Classic Release Date and Stress Test Details

Blizzard has just dumped a whole lot of World of Warcraft Classic information on us, including – at last – a proper release date. The vague ‘summer 2019’ that we heard back at BlizzCon last year is now officially August 27, just ahead of the game’s 15th anniversary. As previously announced, Classic will be included as part of a standard WoW subscription. At a presentation to members of the press earlier this month, executive producer John High said that “This is our love letter to our fans, to our players, to our community. This is something that they have asked for. This is something that they convinced us is the right thing to do for our players.”

Blizzard is running one more test before the launch of WoW Classic later this month. The last test begins August 8, at 7 pm BST/11 am PT and will run for one day. As long as you're a WoW subscriber, you should have access to download WoW Classic in your Blizzard launcher. Blizzard is letting folk into the character creation for WoW classic ahead of official release, starting August 12. Those with an active subscription can create and reserve up to three characters per account. By the way, you can buy cheap World of Warcraft Classic Power Leveling from 5mmo.com, where you can enjoy a 3% discount by using the code “5MMO”.

World of Warcraft Classic will indeed be getting updates to roll out newer features over time, though it’s not yet clear if it’ll be getting full-on expansion add-ons. Blizzard will be keeping an ear to the community to see just how far the resurrection of Vanilla game will go. But the consensus seems to be that fans would be happy to see the game reach its third, hugely popular expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King.

If you'd rather mark the occasion using the current version of the game, you'll have plenty of options. Blizzard is heralding WoW's 15th birthday with upcoming in-game events, including a 25-player raid that represents a "greatest hits" of the title's bosses over the years. There's also a $100 15th Anniversary Collector's Edition of the game that arrives in October that will include in-game mount bonuses, a 10-inch Ragnaros statue, a pin, a mousepad and some art prints. Yes, that's a lot to shell out -- this is more for dedicated fans than anyone else.
